Source #2: Common Threads: Stories from the Quilt documentary

Some things I took note of:

    - Rock Hudson's name on the quilt brought a lot of attention towards the AIDS crisis, one of most famous names on quilt

    - 1% of health care funding went to AIDS crisis in America

    - American Red Cross recalling blood transfusions because AIDS patient had given blood at an undisclosed donation center

    - LIFE magazine “we should all care about AIDS bc it can affect all of us”

-AIDS became leading cause of death for hemophiliacs

    - Eddie Murphy: “Im not antigay Im antiAIDS” (yikes)

    - Public service AIDS announcements, no specific information, no presidential mention of AIDS until specifically asked, no action taken, prevention is cure, thank u Reagan for doing literally nothing

    - National debate to tend to epidemic, years of death and denial

    - Sense of healing through quilt, heal from death of loved ones, be able to engage in something that would commemorate lost lives

-experience of losing all your friends, similar to war

    - Presidential AIDS commission, evidence of system failing, 1 hour 5 minutes, overburdened health care system, unresponsive drug system, discriminatory system

    - More dead than Vietnam War

    - 1 new person infected every minute, 1 AIDS death every 30 minutes

    - David Mendell Jr's mom spoke some people's names, those who lost people were able to say their names and names of others who died

    - a future where panels no longer have to be made

    - Sara Lewinstein, Suzi and David Mendell, Sallie Perryman, Vito Russo, and Tracey Torrey

Visual components of film to utilize:

    - good footage of family members who participated in quilt and lost family member, their own experiences with AIDS and the quilt, how did they heal through making it, all of those speaking in documentary were involved in some way shape or form with the quilt

    - 10 minutes in, Bobbi Campbell was 16th person in SF to be diagnosed with AIDS, he was a nurse and understood the severity of the situation, he has a square and worked tirelessly to insight national action for AIDS treatment and research

    - 20 minutes in, Roger Lyon's speech and quilt square, this was mentioned in Hawkins text so it could be nice to include

    - 26:22 "if he didn't fight he would die...and doctors said he would die"

    - 36 minutes in, violence against hemophiliacs, blood transfusions, David Mandell Jr, fear of spreading AIDS

-37 minutes in, there's a moment where David's mother talks about how people were selling and advertising a strawberry scented lotion that was supposed to "fight off and prevent AIDS", very insensitive and speaks to the lack of information and knowledge around AIDS, people treating their own family differently because they were affected by AIDS

    - 55 minutes in, footage of quilt assembly and making

    - 59:43 painting on quilt footage (making own quilt panel, preparing for own death), comfort in knowing that death will reunite those that have lost each other

-1 hour 2 mins, cope with death through quilt, "do something while you're still here", footage of ACT UP protest, Russo speaking, do something good while you're alive, "I'm here today because I don't want to die, I don't want my name on the quilt next year" to 1 hour 3 minutes

    - 1 hour 7 mins, speaking people's names, laying out quilts, up to an hour and 9 mins, Peter Hujar mention here

    - 1 hour 12 mins, the quilt is some people's final resting points

overall: utilize visual elements of film that speak towards lives of people affected, how the quilt helped their loves ones heal, what kind of platform the quilt stands as for AIDS crisis, anything interesting and worth mentioning, people's opinions on the quilt
